A Tour of Our Sunlit, Heart-of-the-Home Kitchen
By Lily Monroe · November 14, 2023
Explore our sunlit kitchen, designed as the heart of our home with open shelving, bright subway tiles, and a cozy breakfast nook.
Our kitchen is the heart of our home, a sunlit space where we cook, gather, and make memories. Designing it was a labor of love, balancing functionality with warmth to create a space that’s both practical for daily life and inviting for family and friends.
Open shelving displays our favorite dishes and cookbooks, adding an airy, accessible feel while showcasing our personality. Bright subway tiles reflect light and keep the space feeling clean, while wooden accents, like a butcher-block island, bring warmth and texture. A large window above the sink floods the room with natural light, making it a joy to cook or sip morning coffee. We also added a cozy breakfast nook with a built-in bench, perfect for family meals or quiet moments.
Every detail was chosen with intention, from the brass hardware to the potted herbs on the windowsill. This kitchen has hosted everything from pancake mornings to late-night chats with friends, each moment infused with warmth. It’s a space that feels uniquely ours, blending style with everyday functionality.

This kitchen is my favorite room in the house, a place where practicality meets beauty. Whether we’re baking cookies or hosting dinner parties, it’s where our family’s story unfolds, one meal at a time.
